Pregnancy is one of the most wonderful experiences we face in our lives. The beautiful and emotional fact about this stage is that it is faced by both men and women. The couple enjoys and feels this experience together. Here I am going to discuss with you about the first month of pregnancy.
Before I start I must tell you here that pregnancy is divided into three trimesters. Your first month indicates the starting of the first trimester. If I use the language used by the doctors then I would say pregnancy is counted using gestational period which starts on the first day of your last menstrual period. You all know that pregnancy lasts for nine months. But here you will be surprised to know that it lasts for around ten months as we count it from the first day of the last menstrual period. But you should not worry if you don’t remember your date of last menstrual period. Doctors get it checked by ultrasound. Now let’s discuss it week by week.
Week 1 and 2- week one and two are those weeks during which the matured egg is released from the ovary. These weeks are considered as the first two weeks of our menstrual cycle. After the egg is released it starts moving downward towards the fallopian tube and the uterus. Now for the fertilization process egg has to combine with the sperm. But this is also not easy. It occurs after the unprotected vaginal sex during the six days leading up to ovulation and also the day of ovulation.
Then the egg moves down the fallopian tube to get divided into more and more cells. It takes almost 3-4 days to reach uterus after fertilization. These cells form a ball which floats around in the uterus for around 2-3 days.
If the ball attaches to the lining of the uterus then your pregnancy begins. This implantation starts about 6 days after fertilization and takes around four days to complete.
